Análise Espacial e Temporal da Qualidade de Governo nas Regiões do Nordeste Brasileiro (2008-2018)
Abstract
In recent years, there has been an increasing attention among scholars and policymakers in analysing the quality of government. The literature has recognized that the quality of government plays a pivotal role in the provision of various public services, which are crucial for prosperity and economic development. The application of the quality of government framework to the subnational level has enhanced our understanding on this topic, revealing the significant role played by local governments in regional development and the reduction of inequalities. This study aims to examine the spatial distribution and evolution of the Brazilian Quality of Government Index, called BR-QoG, in the Brazilian Northeast regions during the period from 2008 to 2018. Our contribution lies in the application of a tool to assess quality of government in the Northeast Region of Brazil, which is essential for comprehending socioeconomic development and regional disparities. This analysis enables us to discern the primary characteristics of the quality of regional government, its main dimensions, and it carries important policy implications for local development.
