Ciclos políticos e resultados fiscais na América Latina
Abstract
This paper seeks to empirically examine the presence of budgetary political cycles in the fiscal behavior of Latin American countries, using panel data for the period 1990 to 2017. It was evidenced that part of the macroeconomic and fiscal results go through political-economic cycles and are affected by the political-institutional structure of the countries. The results imply that the advancement of democracy in Latin America is capable of containing the size of state participation in the economies of the region, generating the stability necessary for the reduction of public debt and improvement of fiscal performance.
