Os determinantes da inflação brasileira recente: estimações utilizando redes neurais

O presente artigo busca avaliar os determinantes da inflação brasileira recente, mais especificamente a partir de 1999, quando é instituído o Sistema de Metas de Inflação (SMI). Utilizando um modelo de Redes Neurais, avaliamos: (1) se as pressões de demanda, medidas pelo hiato do produto e do desemprego, têm impacto claro e sistemático sobre a inflação; (2) se a “inflação importada”, incluindo a inflação dos produtos transacionáveis em dólares e a variação da taxa de câmbio nominal, exerce influência significativa sobre a inflação; e (3) se o canal de custo da taxa de juros se verifica empiricamente no caso brasileiro. Concluímos que os impactos mais relevantes sobre a inflação brasileira, nesse período estudado, vêm da inércia inflacionária, da “inflação importada” e da variação da taxa básica nominal de juros.
