Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Due to the interest of public health managers in using efficient managerial tools, , indicator management is a tool that allows monitoring performance efficiently, with identification of possible bottlenecks and greater effectiveness to work processes. OBJECTIVE: To identify Key Performance Indicators through the assessment of 16 oncology specialists to evaluate the phases of patient care at a public oncology referral institution. METHODS: Qualitative and quantitative descriptive study with application of the RAND/UCLA method with oncology specialists to select valid performance indicators. RESULT: After meetings and formal consensus of the group, a master list of KPIs classified into three phases was formed: pre, during and post treatment/care. CONCLUSION: It was possible to have enriching discussions that allowed for a comprehensive view of this assessment tool and the possibility of improvements for management practices, as well as, the possibility of applicability of the method in other organizations.
