Abstract
It is a role of quality management to adopt increasingly accurate practices within a hospital in order to contribute to the precariousness rates of hospital organizations around the world. More and more mechanisms are being put in place to make sure hospital protocols are done effectively. Hospital accreditation appears as a tool for evaluating these processes. However, not all hospital organizations are certified or even knowledgeable about the subject. Given this, the question that arises between the problem and the research field is: "What is the understanding of the staff at Professor Alberto Antunes University Hospital (HUPAA) regarding the hospital accreditation?” To answer the proposed question, a qualitative research was conducted. Data were collected by applying a structured interview. Thus, as a locus for conducting the qualitative case study, the Professor Alberto Antunes University Hospital (HUPAA) was chosen. The study may conclude that the perception of University Hospital staff on accreditation is still very limited, the result of a bureaucratic organizational culture and that the theme needs to be more widely disseminated among its employees and their work teams.
