Panorama da configuração econômica dos municípios do Sul de Minas Gerais: uma análise do período 2010-2021
Abstract
Despite being one of the most economically important regions in the state of Minas Gerais, there are still relatively few recent studies dedicated to understanding the current socioeconomic configuration of southern Minas Gerais. The objective of this article is to identify whether a new hierarchical reconfiguration of the municipalities in this region has occurred, driven by factors such as the duplication of the Fernão Dias highway (BR-381). To this end, data were collected and analyzed from sources such as the João Pinheiro Foundation, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), and the Annual Social Information Report (RAIS), focusing on total and sectoral GDP, as well as employment, between the years 2010 and 2021. The study concludes that there has been a shift in the region's economic dynamic from Poços de Caldas to Pouso Alegre and Extrema, which have expanded their functionality and influence over the municipalities of southern Minas Gerais.
