Commons citado por Keynes: intersecções no modo de pensar reformista

Abstract

The systematization in Eras of the economic system, elaborated by John Rogers Commons (1862-1945), is used as an argument by the British economist John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) to convince his audience, the English Liberal Party, about the economic changes experienced in the early 20th century. More than a simple citation, in light of the British economist's critiques of laissez-faire, it is possible to perceive that Commons contributed to Keynes' "mode of thought." This is a point rarely discussed in the literature dedicated to Keynes' work, due to the scant textual evidence of interaction between them. Therefore, this text supports this argument based on the intersections observed in the content and manner of exposition of the ideas of both economists. Both proceed with a common methodology, generally speaking, by presenting their perceptions of the studied reality, identifying the insufficiency of the theoretical elements of the economic theory of their time, and making practical propositions to reform the economic system.
