Consequências macroeconômicas do consumo conspícuo: efeito demonstração, mimetismo cultural; efeito dependência e os limites sociais para o crescimento econômico
Abstract
This paper aims to highlight the conspicuous consumption macroeconomic consequences. Therefore, it will be presented the following concepts: Duesenberry’s (1949) demonstration effect, Nurkse’s (1952, 1953) international demonstration effect; Galbraith’s (1958) dependence effect; and Hirsch’s (1977) affluence paradox. These consequences will be categorized accordingly to how they affect developed and underdeveloped countries. It will also be stated how the above-mentioned authors discuss polices to remediate the macroeconomic demonstrative consumption problems.
