Abstract

The photo on the cover of this dossier, taken by Monique Santos, is part of the audiovisual project "What you don't see: Prostitution as seen by ourselves". Through an artistic and poetic language, which relates the right to the city with their daily tasks and affections, the exhibitions resulting from this project had as a proposal the circulation of meanings of prostitution from the narratives of its protagonists. The title "What you don't see", created by one of the participants, calls attention to the diverse experiences, subjectivities and looks of those who work in the sex markets as protagonists of their lives and people worthy of respect and rights; an important counterpoint to the victimizing discourses inflamed by moral panics about prostitution that circulate before and during "mega-events".
