Abstract

In this paper we propose a reflection on African women's agency and their (re) existence in a time of Pandemic COVID 19, in the context of the city of Praia, capital of Cape Verde. Our sule exercise is grounded in the epistemology of African Womanism (Hudson-Weens, 1993) to understand women's agency in the construction of the city. For Mbembe (2016) in the context of African countries like Cape Verde crossed by the domination system, the colonized cities were erected from a state of exception, whose violence and degradation of the other, as well as colonial practices, would take place through necropower (Mbembe, 2016). Historically, African women play an immeasurable role in the process of building the city, despite the policies of exclusion and erasure of their prominent social place, throughout the process of building cities in Cape Verde.
