NATIONAL CULTURE IN HOFSTEDE AND THE DYNAMICS OF DISEMINATION OF COVID-19:

Abstract

The objective of this study is to understand how the cultural dimensions that define national cultures in Hofstede are linked to the dynamics of the spread of the Covid-19 contagion in the nations most affected by the pandemic. To carry out the research, an information table was set up with 76 nations most affected by Covid-19, with the percentage of the population affected by Covid-19 as a dependent variable and the dimensions of national culture in Hofstede as independent variables. Data were collected in two moments, with and without the Ômicron variant and multivariate linear regression was used. As a result, the adjusted model explains 29,31% of the variation of contagion before Ômicron and 39,66% of the variation of contagion after Ômicron, with emphasis on the dimensions “individualism versus collectivism”, “masculinity versus femininity” and “uncertainty avoidance”, all of which with a statistical significance level of 10%. These results reinforce the need to consider the embeddedness social as a support for public policies to combat endemics and pandemics, increasing the efficiency with which society faces situations that affect its well-being.
