Management skills of the nurse in the Surgical Center

Abstract

Care management in the operating room values ​​the quality of care and the good working conditions for nurses. For this to happen properly, the nurse leaders of the operating rooms must have managerial skills to coordinate their work teams well. In this context, this study aimed to describe the managerial skills of nurses in the Surgical Center (hereinafter CC). It was a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and field research, based on content analysis according to Minayo (2007), from which 5 categories and their respective subcategories emerged. The analyzes and discussions regarding the answers to questionnaires applied to the nurses of the SC in a hospital located in the north of the State of Santa Catarina were presented. It was noticed that nurses basically maintain the same line of thoughts about the necessary skills of the CC manager are: dynamism, versatility, planning, organization, leadership, control and management of their workplace and theoretical and practical knowledge. It can be concluded from the research that the nurse's performance within the CC, through skills that allow her to manage her team in the provision of care, is of paramount importance in the search for a qualified management to obtain beneficial results in direct patient care.
