Abstract
The objective of this paper was to investigate to what extent the implantation of accreditation processes is able to promote the improvement of performance in hospital organizations. Thus, a case study was carried out in a large hospital in Brazil, which initiated the certification process in 2015. As a result, improvement in financial indicators, learning and growth prospects and clients was observed. However, from an internal process perspective, success in all indicators after accreditation was not observed. Nevertheless, it is considered that the implementation of accreditation in the hospital case resulted in improvements in performance, as it positively impacted five of seven indicators evaluated, demonstrating the importance of hospital accreditation and its effects on the performance of organizations.
