Abstract
Heart deseases have a great impact on the hospital´s total costs. With the increase of the population life expectancy, this situation tends to aggravate. This study aims to analyze the cost-effectiveness of two noninvasive therapeutic options for the aortic valve stenosis treatment in elderly, the balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) and the transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). A sample of BAV and TAVI cases was analyzed obtained among the beneficiaries of the health insurance of the Santa Catarina State government, called SC-Saúde. The clinical outcomes of these two treatments were also checked in the literature to support the results. In inoperable patients and whose life expectancy was longer or equal than 2 years, TAVI has better cost-effectiveness. On the other hand, BAV has better cost-effectiveness for patients that can have conventional surgery or for inoperable patients with a life expectancy of less than 2 years. Therefore, the risk evaluation and the measuring life expectancy of the patient will be crucial to choose the better option to ensure improvements in survival and sustainable use of resources.
