Abstract
Health professionals experience high levels of stress at work when dealing with emergencies, excessive workloads, loss sharing, suffering and death of patients, and work in unhealthy environments. These problems diminish their productivity and make them sick. They also cause substantial financial losses to health organizations. Health professionals can face the physical and psychological distress of poor working conditions, reducing their risks of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic disorder, and burnout syndrome, by using mindfulness techniques, that is, that is, increasing their capacity for intentional attention to the experience of present moment. The article discusses the use of mindfulness protocols in the hospital context in order to enable health professionals to effectively solve problems and manage emotions. Creativity-based mindfulness protocols are considered to be best suited to cope with high levels of continuous stress.
