Abstract

The present study aims to study the hospital performance evaluation, aiming to know the perception of the hospital managers of Santa Catarina about the use of indicators. The research is characterized as of pragmatic philosophy, of inductive logic, of qualitative, descriptive and transversal approach. The population of this research is made up of 199 general hospitals in Santa Catarina, with the aim of tracing, in a general way, a profile of the manager and its establishment, regarding the use of indicators, benchmarking practice and performance evaluation. Data collection was divided into two phases: a) exploratory, through three semi-structured interviews with hospital managers; and b) descriptive, through the application of a questionnaire also with hospital managers, in which 25 answers were obtained. It was verified that the hospital managers consider the indicators important tools of management and performance evaluation and that, despite being performed by half of the respondents of this research, the benchmarking process among the hospitals of Santa Catarina lacks standardization and structuring.
