DATA ENVELOMENT ANALYSIS IN THE EVALUATION OF PUBLIC HOSPITALS

Abstract

Demonstrating through the modeling of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), this work allowed to measure the performance of the Regional Hospitals of the Federal District, in order to evaluate and compare the efficiency of the eleven regional hospitals in Brasília. The main objective is to carry out an evaluation of hospital efficiency in terms of two aspects: allocative and economic. In this sense, considering the variables presented in the literature, inputs and outputs were chosen for the creation of performance indicators. The analysis was carried out in two stages, in order to achieve more comprehensive results, where the first examined the technical and allocative efficiency of the units, through the dimension of work and outpatient production. The second stage, on the other hand, looks at structural and financial aspects to assess economic efficiency, with the aim of reducing unwanted products and increasing the number of hospitalizations per bed. The results found showed that the medium-sized units stood out in relation to the large ones and reinforced the DEA model as an important tool for comparative assessment between hospitals and for the analysis of hospital efficiency.
