Abstract
Studies related to health systems costs enable policies for managing and resources allocation. In this paper, we studied the costs and the hospitalization time for classic and hemorrhagic dengue fever, which are considered a public health problem in the country. We conducted this study associating the average time of hospitalization with the total cost. Posteriorly, the average and median time of hospitalization were estimated with a survival model. For this, we have used the Cox model with frailty Gamma. As a result, we found a higher time of hospitalization from older individuals that are hospitalized with hemorrhagic dengue, resulting in higher costs for the system. We also verify that the time of hospitalization varies according to the localities. In the state of Rio de Janeiro, for example, the hospitalization time is higher when compared to other states in the region.
