AVALIAÇÃO DAS INTOXICAÇÕES POR PARACETAMOL NO HOSPITAL DE URGÊNCIA E EMERGÊNCIA DA REDE PÚBLICA/BRASIL

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate cases of paracetamol poisoning in a public emergency hospital in Minas Gerais.Material and Method: A retrospective, descriptive study was carried out based on cases of poisoning recorded in the period from January to December, 2019 in a state tertiary hospital, specializing in emergencies. For data collection, internal records of the Toxicology unit of Hospital João XXIII were used, in addition to information recorded in the hospital management system (SIGH), the hospital's electronic program, which among its functions, serves as an instrument for recording data from patients. The variables used were: identification, month, age, sex, ingested dose, ingestion time, antidote, antidote dose, conduct, evolution and values ​​of transaminase enzymes (TGO and TGP). Results: 55 cases of paracetamol poisoning were obtained within them, 34.55% for males and 65.45% for females. It was observed that the predominant age group was young adults, aged between 20-29 years (27.27%), followed by the age group 15-19 years (23.63%), 18.18% of patients who were aged between 30-39 years and children 1 to 4 years (11.11%). Of the circumstances that led to the poisoning, 43 attempted self-extermination, 8 accidental, 2 administration error and 2 self-medication. Conclusion: Among analgesics, paracetamol had the highest number of cases of intoxication in the largest reference hospital for trauma, toxicology and burns in Latin America.
