Abstract
The study aims to conduct a bibliometric and patent search for low-cost alternative mechanical ventilators related to respiratory diseases as a way of coping with covid-19. This is an exploratory descriptive research with a qualitative and quantitative approach, using bibliometric and patent prospecting techniques for processing information. The databases used to survey the articles were Web of Science and Scopus and for the mapping of patents the Orbit Intelligence and the National Institute of Industrial Property. In all, 15 articles were analyzed, all of which were open source, and 83 patents. The country that publishes the most articles is the United States, with 5, and China the largest patent holder, with 63.Brazil presents itself with two publications of articles, the result of cooperation between universities, and five patent protections. It can be concluded in the last 5 years an engagement between countries for the development of low cost alternative ventilators and the increase in the development of research, through scientific articles, aiming at breaking paradigms in search of new technologies.
