Resumo

This study uses the financial statements of Brazilian listed companies between 2009 and 2011. We find that presenting environmental information to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) does not influence the performance of the entities, either earnings management (EM). We note that the statement of value added (DVA) is an important information tool, both indicating the performance of companies and of EM. The main results indicate that firms with a higher return on assets (ROA) have higher added value, distributing their generated wealth more to the government and less to employees. With respect to EM, the larger companies perform less.
